Resolve to Evolve!!!!
put a yogic spin on your resolutions this year to infuse the New Year with positive change

Looks like winter has just arrived. it's funny but with all this warm weather we've been having it has felt more like fall than the beginning of a new year. and with this trick from mother nature our minds may have trouble associating January as the well-known "start over" button. some of us may find it's been hard to get the new year going and off to a much needed fresh start. but now the cold front is here- take in your surroundings, reflect upon the past year and prepare for the wonderful days ahead.

and what better way to start the new year right than with a new year's intention. resolutions are a noteworthy concept, starting off the year with a change for the better. but how did it evolve into an exercise in self-loathing? (lose weight- message to self: you're fat, stop drinking caffeine- message to self: you're unhealthy) so this year trade in resolutions with intentions. an intention is a will, a truth, a purpose that you already hold inside yourself. instead of focusing on a negative aspect about ourselves (i want to lose weight, so no more cookies), an intention explores the reason for this behavior and brings more awareness to our actions (i crave cookies when i feel bored. so i will set an intention to be aware of this craving and let it pass, rather than eat fats). release dogma and guilt in your life and praise yourself for your progress.

The Tennessean
Yoga, salon move into Martin Corner

Friday, 12/29/06
By Courtney Watson

EAST NASHVILLE — The first commercial tenants at Martin Corner's 37206 Lofts are moving in.

Leah Lillios, founder of Kali Yuga Yoga, held her first classes in the new space at Fatherland and 11th earlier this month. Platinum Hair Salon & Boutique, owned by Debbie Sorensan, has also opened, holding its grand opening last week.

Kali Yuga's 900-square-foot space on Fatherland Avenue is still under construction, but will house a 600-square-foot studio hosting a variety of yoga classes including Vinyasa, Restorative Yoga and Barkan Method Hot Yoga.

"I'm very excited to share my passion for yoga and educate others about its healing benefits here in the East End," Lillios said. "The studio is a perfect opportunity to grow our yoga community and East Nashville is such a great neighborhood as well."

Lillios is a trained modern dancer and has been practicing yoga for over eight years. She has been teaching at local studios including Magnolia Day Spa in East Nashville and at the Cool Springs YMCA for the past five years. Lessons are slated to begin Jan. 8 with a grand opening planned for later in the month. For more information, call 297-6484.

Platinum Hair Salon & Boutique offers cuts, color, highlights, straightening and styling, along with facials, microderm, manicures and pedicures. Clients can enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea while processing in the natural sunlight through the expansive window front.

"We have a strong team of professionals who have come together from all over the country to create a positive and innovative difference for our clients," Sorensan said. "Our objective is to make our customers look great, feel great and have a great time." Sorensan opened up her first salon, Extreme, four years ago.
